About New Jersey’s Five Star Dance Center
Teaneck New Jersey’s premiere dance school Five Star Dance teaches a variety of professional quality dance classes. Our programs help our students increase their self esteem, build character and reach their personal and professional goals. We offer dance to beginners, recreational and pre-professional boys and girls ages 3 through adult that love to dance.
Meet Five Star Dance Center’s Director Lorna Mack
Lorna is a retired Physical Education / Dance Teacher from the NYC Board of Education. She also served as the Head Dean and Athletic Director. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education with a minor in Dance and a Masters Degree in Special Education.
Her dance training began in the 1960’s at Bernice Johnson Cultural Arts Center in Jamaica Queens under the tutelage of Bernice Johnson. While there she studied under renowned choreographers such as Aca Thomas, Chuck Davis, and Michael Peters to name a few. She was a member of the Bernice Johnson Dance Company which performed at Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall, Round About Theater and various other venues in New York. After teaching at BJ’s for 17 years she moved on to teach at DeVore Dance Center also in Queens. In 1992 Lorna relocated her family to Teaneck NJ.
Though Teaneck offered many activities for youth there wasn’t a dancing school. With the help of her family and friends she opened Five Star Dance Center in 1994. Five Star was greatly supported by the community and surrounding towns. Through Five Star Dance Center’s 30 years of being open numerous children and adults have been through its doors. Lorna is now welcoming second and third generation of dancers with enthusiasm about the future.
